A UK full drivers licence holder can drive in Australia, on their UK licence, without the need for an International Driving Licence.
As a Visitor to Australia, you can drive on your UK licence whilst it is valid, AND whilst your Temporary Visa is also valid.
Once you are a Permanent resident, you need to obtain an Australian State licence within 3 months, if you wish to continue driving.
Failure to do this, will leave you open to prosecution by the Police for driving without a valid licence.
You may also find that your car insurance also becomes invalid.
